Andrew “Rube” Foster created the Negro Leagues in Chicago, Illinois in 1920 to "create a profession that would equal the earning maximum amount of other professions, and keep colored baseball from the control of whites." The players not only had to deal with suddenly changing schedules and low pay, they also had poor equipment due to lack of funding and forced reliance on white teams’ ballparks, they didn't have their own dressing rooms, and they were often not allowed to use the white players' dressing rooms.
